People's Welfare Association

The People’s Welfare Association (PWA) is a U.S. 501(c)(4) non-profit organization that seeks to support civil society organizations from all over the world who promote social, economic, cultural, environmental, and human development for people and communities that have had their rights historically denied. PWA seeks to empower communities through education, media, and capacity building. PWA supports a variety of charitable and social welfare projects.

PROGRAMS

Education

PWA supports initiatives aimed at education, exchanges, and actions that contribute to the construction of a critical consciousness, offering tools that promote human rights and change.

Media

PWA supports journalism that betters the lives of impacted communities. PWA promotes not-for-profit and community media that investigate public interest issues relevant to marginalized populations, and which are traditionally overlooked in the mainstream media.

Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture

PWA supports agroecological initiatives for local communities to promote sustainable farming methods, to ensure marginalized peoples have access to food as well as contribute to more environmentally conscious agricultural practices.

Advocacy

PWA supports advocacy, civil society, and movements aimed at improving the human condition and fostering civic engagement.

DIRECTORS

The leadership of PWA brings to the organization a diverse array of backgrounds, experiences, and expertise in the areas of education, social justice, and agricultural capacity-building.

Iván Orosa Paleo

Iván is a researcher and academic with expertise in economics, agriculture, and peasant communities. His current focus is the introduction of suitable agricultural machinery and technologies into cooperatives’ and peasant communities’  in impoverished countries in the Global South. He is passionate about contributing to social change by means of collective action and organization, supporting various capacity-building and educational projects for grassroots movements.

Kristine Krouth

Kristine is a lifelong educator, having served a variety of educational initiatives for 21 years. She began as an educator in a school district with 25,000 students, initially teaching students with special needs, and then instructing students and teachers using emerging technologies. Kristine has been passionate about liaising educators and promoting people-to-people exchanges and has extensive experience in administration and logistics of educational programs and events. Her experience has featured, in recent years, increasing focus and interest in international education. 

Dr. Phil Baruch Gottlieb

Dr. Phil Baruch Gottlieb teaches in the department of Cultural Work (Kulturarbeit) in the faculty of Urbanism, Architecture and Culture at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (FH Potsdam) where he is director of RITA, the Research Institute for Technical Aesthetics.
